Work started this Saturday on knocking out the existing changing rooms to make a new Weight Room. A few members stayed to help - Gareth, Matt, Adam, Jamie and coaches Mickey and Kerry, with Craig and Keith popping in for a short while.
Thank you to those who stayed till 6.30pm to knock down walls and clear up the debris totally filling the skip that had been dropped earlier that morning. All rubbish was cleared ready for the next step - Painting and then laying the floor, don't forget the ceiling and a new stud wall! not much really and that's before the new changing rooms are put in.

1st win for club

So 4 weeks into the new season and C'jay 'CHEEKY' Barraclough has given the club it's 1st win down in Sheffield on Wednesday 29th October. C'jay was the 1st bout on for the night after a disappointment for Jamie Tomlinson (11) after his opponent failed to make weight!

C'Jay was nervous as hell but went out hands blazing 1st round, on coming back to the corner asked me if he was winning! After some words of encouragement from me in the corner the bell went for the 2nd round, This time he was out the corner even faster pulling some good defence off as his opponent returned punches and fired back with his own, Back in the corner 1 round to go, C'jay now buzzing and realising he has the upper hand and now so full of confidence this time telling me what he's gona do! (my job to tell you cheeky!). Bell goes 3rd and final round and again both lads firing shots off at each other going all out for the last! As the round ended we was confident C'Jay had it. On to the announcment! Unaminous decision in the blue corner C'Jay Barraclough! Points 11-4, 9-4, 9-4. Thank you to David Wilkinson from Halifax ABC for putting up a good show against C'jay. Thanks to Halifax Coach Mick Rowe and Referee Ronnie tucker and all who organised and took part in the night!

Next Show is Kingston ABC in Hull which is a dinner show on 21st November £32.50 for tickets inc Meal. We have Adam Rose (senior) @ 84kg and Jamie Tomlinson aged 11 on that Show so please come down and show your support for the boys.

Sponsored Circuit in Memory of Bex Snowden

We are holding a sponsored circuit session on Tues 4th November in memory of Rebecca “BEX” Snowden.
Rebecca died at the age of 4 on September 19th 2008 from a rare disease called Cockayne Syndrome.
Bex is the niece of one of our gym members Carl Murray and daughter of Dave & Yvonne Snowden.
The charity we are raising money for is called Amy & Friends.

The aim of the sponsored circuit is to raise money for the charity and raise awareness of this rare disease.
It will consist of 10 exercises, 3 minutes on each with no rest. I myself will be sparring for 2 hours! 2min rounds with 1min rests between, that’s 40 rounds!
Cockayne Syndrome (CS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by poor growth, microcephaly, progeria (premature aging), sensitivity to sunlight, moderate to profound developmental and neurological delays, and a shortened lifespan. CS is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. In order for a child to be affected by CS, he or she must inherit a mutation (-) in the same CS gene from both parents. The parents and other “carriers” of a single CS gene mutation remain healthy. Once a couple are known to carriers, they have a 1 in 4 (25%) chance of having another child with CS.
The symptoms of Cockayne syndrome vary significantly, especially with regard to their age of onset and rate of progression.
I would appreciate everyone’s help with this in raising awareness, and raising as much money as we can for this great cause. I would like to thank you in advance from all at the club as well as Bex family.

Anyone outside the club who wishes to take part or make a donation please contact us.
The money raised will help other familys live a better quality life and help to fund finding a cure as well as helping with the costs of medicine for these familys.

All who participate will recieve a personalised certificate from the club with the amount they raised.

A message from Dave:
Cockayne syndrome is very rare and only found in 1:500:000 people, I am reaching out for help if not to cure this syndrome then to make people aware and understand, and if possible help other children and families live a happy fulfilled life.Thank you all so much for your help
Dave (Bex daddy)
