DEBUT SHOW A HUGE SUCCESS!

Mickeys held its debut show this Wednesday 28th October @ Snaith Sports Hall Snaith. After a long day getting set up the venue was good to go and we just awaited the boxers and spectators arrival along with the officials for the night and VIP guests.
There was 16 bouts matched for the night and a good job done as after the weigh in 15 stood for the night. We knew it would be a huge task to get the boxers out on time but we was ready for the challenge!

The 1st bout was a skills and saw Marcus Trinder (Mickeys) make his debut against Jordon Welsh (Hull Saints) a no decision bout to build confidence Marcus impressed the coaches with his skill.

Bout No5 of the night saw Jamie Tomlinson (Mickeys) up against Usman Rana (Bennys) from Nottingham.A tough bout for both boxers with Jamie losing by 1 point to a majority decision. Both these boxers were awarded Best Junior Bout of the Night by the sponsors. We then saw back in the ring Gareth Hilton (Mickeys) who has not been in the ring since April make his come back and an amazing bout against Luke Templeman (York ABC.) Gareth winning with being given it by unanimous decision by the judges.

Gareth has really impressed his coaches at the club since his last bout at the end of last season in Halifax, he has improved and improved over the last few months and it showed in this bout.

Bout No10 saw Aaron Leaper (Mickeys) in the ring again this season against Dean Donelly (Jabs), these 2 met 2 weeks ago in Leeds in a great bout blow for blow with Aaron losing by a couple of points to Donelly, there coach asked for a return on our show and we accepted, Aaron out boxed his opponent this time round boxing him on the outside and picking his shots and won by unanimous decision with one judge scoring it 25-12 to Aaron! We then had a short interval and waited while the seniors went on one by one and then bout 14 of the night saw Adam Rose (Mickeys) in the ring Vs Leon Shilitto (Hull Saints), Leon's original opponent pulled out the day before the show and he was re matched with out Adam at 1400hrs on the day a late bout for Adam who had had no time to prepare. The bout took off with Leon putting a lot of pressure on Adam and Adam finally being stopped just before the bell of the last round. Both these boxers were awarded best Senior Bout of the night by the sponsors. The final bout of the night and the one we had all been waiting for came Marcin Kowalczyk (Mickeys) Vs Mike McDonald (City Of Hull) both these lads were originally to both make there debut at our show but Mike then made his in Scunthorpe 3 weeks before winning a points decision over his opponent. This did not phase Marcin as he had been preparing for this bout for weeks. The bell rang for the 1st round and Marcin was out the corner as fast as he could stunning Mike with blow on blow, Mike threw back but Marcin kept his head moving and his feet light and fast it was hard for Mike to hit him. Both boxers returned to there corners at the end of the 1st and given advice from there coaches and once again the bell rang out for the 2nd round! Marcin flew out once again throwing blow after blow and landing a cracking shot straight on the button that saw mike hit the canvas KO'd! the crowd roared .A great ending to the show and a fantastic debut for Marcin and the club getting 4 out of 6! All the lads and the staff worked extremely hard for this show and mickey would like to congratulate and thank them all for there hard work, commitment and there dedication to the club.

We would also like to thank all the officials, boxers, clubs, sponsors, spectators and all the staff at the venue for all there support and look forward to our next one early next year! First Win & Skills Bout of the Season

The boxing season got off to a great start for Mickey's ABC last week. Taking two Juniors to Locky's ABC Show in Barnsley, saw Piers Pickard (13) and Jamie Tomlinson(12) get the season off to a flying start. Piers Pickard opened the evening with the first ever skills bout for the club. This is were Piers and his opponent demonstrate their boxing skills in each of the three one and a half minute rounds without the risk of full contact and there is no winner or runner up. Piers did an excellent job and came out of the ring confident and all fired up and can't wait for the next show. Jamie Tomlinson followed straight after Piers with the first competition bout of the evening. Nervous as he entered the ring Jamie soon settled delivering Hooks to his opponents body as his opponent left himself open, into the second round Jamie settled himself in the centre of the ring and worked his opponent round the outside. Tiring, his opponent left himself open and Jamie used his longer reach to his advantage delivering jabs and Backhands into his opponents scoring area. The third round saw Jamie moving round the ring with ease side stepping his opponents shots and looking for the opening to score again. The announcement was made the judges decision was unanimous Jamie had won 11-3 8-2 9-4 bringing the first win the club this season.

Boxing Awards

Mickey's Boxing Academy held it's first ABA Awards day on Tuesday 25th August. Eight of the gyms Junior members class attended a full day of boxing delivered by Coaches Kerry Tomlinson and Adam Rose, to earn their Preliminary Medal and Certificate. The members where taken through all the basic punches and defences, working on the bags and in the ring and where continually assessed through out the day. All the young lads had to achieve over 55 marks in their assessment to pass however the standard was excellent with all achieving more than 70 marks and above. Coach Kerry Tomlinson said' it was an excellent day, all the young lads had a great time and picked up all the basics really quickly and I was really impressed with the final assessment results, well done lads.'This is the first step out of six levels which get progressively harder as you work through them. All were raring to start practising for their next award which will hopefully take place after the club show.
